about

Last but not least, "DEPENDENT VI" is just a failed attempt at funk; I was really trying to groove on a simple beat. I remember Ben Kesler taught me this sliding 7th chord trick way back. I attempted that here -- even used a strat -- but then buried it in the mix out of sheer humiliation.

lyrics

DEPENDENT VI

I write a letter addressed to General
Electric demanding he pull all microwaves
from circulation. Her tongue makes a V
down the spine. She seals the center
with a kiss like the litter of kittens whose ear
tips
were bit
by the frost.

It’s late
even-
ing: un-veil
your navel
nest,
reveal
your salt
skin -- vast as a lens
sees, hot as an oven --
and let us revel in the nite’s
separate soil.
